Doug began practicing at the bar in 1980. After some years, his practice developed mainly in the fields of commercial and property law and equity but he has a wealth of experience in probate, succession Law and trusts. He has a Master of Laws degree from Bond University with majors in corporate and comparative law.
He was appointed Senior Counsel in 2006 but that rank was usurped by Letters Patent as Queens Counsel, on 6 June 2013 with seniority preserved.
Doug is an accredited mediator under the National Mediator Accreditation System. He began mediating as an adjunct to his practice as a barrister, in 1996. He has trained at Bond University’s ADR Centre, of which he is an advisory board member. He has had further training on two separate occasions at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University, California, as well as at the American Institute of Mediation in Los Angeles. He was inducted as a Distinguished Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators last May.
He was a member of Qld Bar Council for fourteen years and held the positions of Honorary Secretary (4 yrs) and Honorary Treasurer (4 yrs). He chairs the Queensland Bar Asscociation Succession Law Committee and is a member of the ADR committee.
He is head of Cedric Hampson Chambers in the Inns of Court, Brisbane.
