 Doug is head of Cedric Hampson Chambers.  Doug began practising at the bar in 1980. His practice developed mainly in the fields of commercial, company and property law, equity, probate, succession law and trusts. He has a Master of Laws degree from Bond University with majors in corporate and comparative law.   He has been a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) since 2010.  Doug took silk in 2006.   Doug began mediating as an adjunct to his practice as a barrister in 1996 and trained at Bond University’s ADR Centre.  He undertook further training on two separate occasions at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University, California, and also at the American Institute of Mediation in Los Angeles. An accredited mediator under the National Mediator Accreditation System, Doug is also a member of the Mediator Standards Board that oversees that system. In May 2013, he was inducted as a Distinguished Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators (iamed.org).  Doug has been an elected member of the Bar Council for 17 years and held the positions of Honorary Secretary (4 yrs) and Honorary Treasurer (4 yrs).  He chairs the Queensland Bar Association Succession and Elder Law Committee and is a member of the ADR committee.  He is also a long-standing member of the Griffith University Law School Advisory Committee.
